Windoro: The Magnetic Window-Washing Robot
by Devin Coldewey on January 6, 2011

During our foray into the “robots” section of the south hall here at CES, we found this little guy. I heard about this guy a few months back somewhere, but it was something else seeing it in action. I mean, it’s not like it was going crazy or anything, but look at it! The two halves (I prefer to think of them as twins) attach to each other through the glass magnetically and then work their way systematically over the window with its little microfiber cloths. Love it. Here are some more pictures of this guy. It’s from a company called Ilshim.

Usually you can’t easily access both sides of the window easily at the same time, though. Seems like it would be useless in 93% of situations…

contest…
This is pure awesomeness! Looking forward to get more info and details about this one
This is the perfect thing for those of us who wish we had an iRobot Roomba for the glass surfaces of our homes as well. One more step until we can have an entire ecosystem of little cleaning robots.
I´ll get out of job now!
I want one. I have a florida room with lots of glass.
Will this work on double pane windows?
I want one!!
Any chance this comes with the scaffolding to reach our 3rd-4th floor exterior windows?
Does it work with triple pane windows?
Price tag???
Try googling video of this machine in operation. I googled “Windoro” and got a bunch of videos in Japanese. One of the videos actually showed a window that was actually dirty. The machine cleaned the window, however it was very slow and because it was a really dirty window. It showed where the machine does not get the edge of the window. The design actually held the cleaning discs back from the edge about half an inch. You would still have to clean this by hand. I wouldn’t buy this machine until they redesign it.
It doesn’t look like it would get into corners.
Can you beleive people? “IT DOESN’T GET IN THE CORNERS GOOD ENOUGH” i LAUGHED MY A-OFF. (sorry) for about 10 minutes before I could get my composure to respond. Sooooo Awsome!!! I can see window washers all over the cities standing on there scaffolds like Vanna White just waiting to move the machine to the next window.
Kinda nice, except most high-rise buildings don’t have easy access to the outside of the windows
it comeing down to this,we live in a very big fish bowl and all we need is a big hand to move it around, can someone feed me now please
The next logical improvement is a ground to roof cable that can traverse laterally and the little robot on the out side can ascend and descend to seek and find its counterpart as it is passed from employee to employee that needs their window cleaned.
i have one on my windshield. I just flip a switch on & off. Oh, wait, that’s the wiper washer, sorry…Al-
I used to pitch the Hand Operated Double Sided Magnetic Window Cleaner. No batteries,no recharging. Worked well on cleaner windows,,using lots of water on the washing pads. No double panes, etc, etc.
Great place to mount a wireless spy cam and senstive mic.Can we say corporate espionage
It’s fantastic. How can I do to buy one? And where?
This thing is fantastic, I own a window cleaning business and it might put me out of work
