Pretty soon you’re going to be able to play 1080p pr0n in your car. Handy and disgusting all at the same time. But at least it will have a pretty interface!

Agloves is a winner, but follow closely; I don’t wanna lose you. They’re gloves — got you so far? — that without any annoying nub, button or nipple, work with touchscreens. Crazy, I know. But we saw them in action and they really do work thanks to conductive silver-coated-nylon fibers woven in the mitts. Clever, eh? $17.99.
“Point. Shoot. Pay — or Deposit.” That pretty much sums Mobile Photo Bill Pay and Mobile Deposit from Mitek Systems, which uses smartphone cameras to take mobile banking to the next level.
Sony isn’t giving up on Google TV. It was one of the largest sections within their massive CES 2011 booth. Plus, within the video you get to see me chewing gum like a jerk.
Monster Cable launched West Coast Customs car care products and the Miles Davis Trumpet Headphones. We managed to see one of them.
The guys at NotionAddicts recorded our live video of the Notion Ink Adam Tablet interview in which we give the device a fair shake and explain ourselves to the man Rohan himself. He was very gracious and quite generous with his time. The jury’s still out in John’s mind, but we’ll see when the pre-order ships.
They’ll be publishing more of the interview shortly and we’ll have a snipped out version as well soon. What did you think?
Today is the day. Today is the day where we can put the nonsense of yesterday’s press events behind us and actually get on the floor of CES 2011 with our Ustream equipment. Hallelujah.
The show technically opens at 10:00am, but we’re kicking off the day with a live interview with Ford’s superstar CEO, Alan Mulally at 9:00 in Ford’s North Hall booth. We have twenty minutes with the man, so please, drop any questions you may have in the comments below concerning Ford’s roll in vehicle technology, the auto maker’s stance on EVs, or anything else, really. We’re certainly going to ask Detroit’s top car guy how he feels about the new US Top Gear series.
After the Mulally interview, we’re going to hit the show floor hard and fast with our Ustream equipment. There’s a lot to see here and we only have a couple short days to bring it all. So yeah, click over to CES.CrunchGear.com for the latest news and the live Ustream feed, which we’ll fire up at 9:00am PST today.
GM and Powermat took the CES platform to announce a major partnership. Starting with several GM 2012 vehicles, Powermat’s inductive charging pads will be integrated directly into the vehicles, allowing for a quick and seamless charging solution. The auto maker is investing $5 million into Powermat to accelerate the development cycle.
The exact details aren’t addressed in the press release so it’s not exactly clear how or where the Powermat will work. Hopefully somewhere in this massive CES 2011 mess, we can find a demo or an executive to shed a bit more light on the plans. Most of the deets should be worked out. The first car to get this charging solution will be the 2012 Chevy Volt later this year.
Wait a sec. You haven’t seen this one before. I know it looks like just a different flavor of the Microsoft Arc Touch, but it’s actually the Microsoft Touch Mouse. Where the Arc Touch is just a a fancy travel mouse with just a touch sensor, the Touch Mouse is actually a mouse where the entire top surface is a touch pad. Yep, that means gestures and all the fun trackpads offer.
CES 2011 was set to be filled with tablets and Panasonic briefly showed off their first entry into the form factor. Viera Tablet, as it will be called, will connect to “cloud servers” but that’s about all we know at this point. The tablet will be officially announced in Panasonic’s home country of Japan “in a few hours” although it sounds like it will be at the Panny CES booth so we’ll grab some hands-on as soon as we can. The company expects to launch the slate to the global market later this year.
We knew they were coming and Asus was the one that told us (twice): Tablet, lots of tablets. Asus just pulled back the sheet on several new slate devices.
Part of Onkyo’s CES offering are throwbacks. They borrow styling from a time when Reagan was staring down Gorbachev. A time when cartoons were good and news nightly. A time when hair was long and stereo was in. Clearly Onkyo wanted to dial up some ’80s love for their latest release. And it’s awesome.
Asus always has a strong CES showing and this year looks like it might be centered around everyone’s favorite new form factor: tablets. The company released teaser pics just the other day that highlight the top-tier manufacturing but those pics seemed to ask more questions than they answered. They were of several models with a few of them showing unconventional configurations, which left us wondering what the hell Asus had developed.
But it seems the answers were already floating through the Internet tubes. Asus had apparently released a CES teaser video before Christmas that pretty much filled in all the details on the Windows tablet — the EP121. But then another video appear — and then disappeared — that revealed the model number and form factors of the other three slates: the EP102 slider, the EP101 with dockable keyboard, and then the smaller EP71 media player. So yeah, click through only if you want to spoil your Asus CES appetite.
Vizio might just be the next big consumer electronic’s company with a set of announcements that should make the rest of the industry take notice. The company has long been a top player in the US domestic LCD wars and seems to be set to utilize their brand with a host of new software and hardware options.
VIA Plus: Think the video transporting features of Apple’s AirPlay but instead of iOS devices, this service will hit Vizio products including the just-announced Android VIA Tablet and VIA Phone. According to the short press release, consumers will be able to start watching content on one device and then pick up on another. How? No idea. The techy details will no doubt flow once Vizio’s CES showing gets underway although the presser does make mention that the devices will share a common user interface as shown in the pic above.
The newest Vizio hardware isn’t just limited to the 8-inch tablet or 4-inch phone, though. Just like the rumormill stated a few weeks back, Vizio has at least one upcoming Google TV model. Once again, the details are nonexistent, but the GTV is clearly mentioned in the VIA Plus announcement. CES, here we come!
CES 2011 is next week. Next week! This year’s show is sure to be filled with a ton of craptablets and iPad knock-offs, but Asus is one of those companies that should be able to out a lasting and quality tablet. The pic above is a little tease of what’s coming — and surprise surprise, they actually shows off a good deal.
